Four years ago, McMaster University undertook a renewed effort to connect with communities and build stronger relationships and partnerships with Hamilton-based individuals, groups and organizations.

Early on in that process, and as a result of my involvement with both McMaster and community groups, I was hired to help facilitate these efforts and am now fortunate to be leading McMaster's first community engagement strategy.

As a lifelong Hamiltonian and McMaster graduate, I am passionate about finding ways to bring about positive change in the Hamilton and surrounding communities and have seen first-hand the difference it makes when many different voices come together to work toward making our community a better place to live, work, and play.

That's why I'm inviting you to join us.

McMaster's Network for Community Campus Partnership is seeking Hamilton residents, community organizations, businesses, and government representatives to bring your perspectives and insights to our project teams as we develop ways to respond to community-driven issues and priorities.

Why get involved? Whether you want to partner on a research project, host a student placement, or identify volunteer opportunities, we'd love to hear from you and have you join us to co-develop ideas and strategies for improving our community.

What will you be doing? It really depends on your interests, availability, and what you hope to gain. Projects and time commitment vary, and our goal is to find a good fit that best serves your interests or the interests of your group or organization.

They say you can do anything in Hamilton. I got involved because I was passionate, intrigued, and energized about McMaster's potential to contribute in a positive way to the Hamilton community.

If you are equally passionate, intrigued, and energized, I hope you will consider joining us.

Please email me at dheide@mcmaster.ca to learn more.

Dave Heidebrecht is the Manager of McMaster University’s Office of Community Engagement.
