On January 27, you're invited to a very special birthday party. Raise the Hammer is marking two years of independent journalism and we'd like to celebrate with you.
Rather than have a weighty, dry and ultimately fruitless roundtable symposium with blue-chip speakers, corporate sponsors and a speech from the Mayor, we decided to do this Hammer-style, so it's in a bar instead of City Hall. (Nothing personal, Mayor Fred. You're still invited.)
Not just any bar, however. The second floor of the Ceilidh House on George Street in Hess Village stands out with its beautiful woodwork, gorgeous hardwood floors and a great selection of beers, ales and scotches (click here for a map). It's exactly the kind of successful, independent establishment Raise the Hammer is proud to support.
We're also lining up some entertainment for the evening that will make it a memorable night. More details to follow.
There is no cover charge.
We look forward to seeing you there, along with as many friends and family members as you'd like to bring along!
Fossil fuels resemble capital in the bank. A prudent and responsible parent will use his [sic] capital sparingly in order to pass on to his children as much as possible of his inheritance. A selfish and irresponsible parent will squander it in riotous living and care not one whit how his offspring will fare." -- Admiral Hyman Rickover, 1957

HSR Needs Funding, Not Belt-Tightening (Nov. 13, 2008) -
The Hamilton Spectator's opposition to another bus fare hike is most welcome and well-founded. But their "solution" of asking the HSR to further tighten its belt is not practical.

Is anyone organizing a car pool to attend this? Or do we all have to take the bus? :-)
Thanks for holding this. I hope to be there.
