Mum's the Word: City Seeks Historical Mum Show Materials

Okay, RTH, here's a chance for some wisdom of the crowdsourcing collective intelligence folksonomy (or something):

The Horticulture section of the city's Department of Public Works is working on a project to research the annual Chrysanthemum Show (AKA the "Mum Show") held at Gage Park. They're looking for historical records dating back to the first show in 1920 up to the mid-1970s, since which the city has better records.

If you have any materials from early Mum Shows - photographs, documents, personal accounts and so on - please contact Sheila Munday from the city to share them. You can reach Sheila by phone (905-546-2424 x4179) or by email: smunday@hamilton.ca.

While you're at it, it would be great to share your stories in the comments on this blog post as well!

I like the 'Mum Show!! At a time when gardening is winding down & Winter is just around the corner, it,s a lovely place to go.

It also introduces new admirers to the green houses from the City & The 'Burbs & surrounding areas. (We had no idea that Hamilton had such a great Park with such a wonderful greenhouse set up, until we went to the 'Mum Show.) Hamilton doesn't promote it's parks enough, except when special events come up.
