New Feature: Events Calendar

Raise the Hammer has had an event listing, called Word on the Street, since May 2005. However, we haven't always done the best job of making this easy for readers to discover and use.

Now we're working to make up for lost time by presenting our event listing in a handy Events Calendar format.

You can always find the link to the Events Calendar at the top right of the site, below the search box. Just click on an event title on a calendar day to see the details for the event.

Note: if the event has an address, the event listing now includes an auto-generated link to the Google Map for that address.

If you are planning an event or simply know about one and want to promote it, be sure to post the event to our event listing. (To post events, you will need a registered RTH user account.)

One last question: RTH has always allowed site visitors to comment on articles and blog entries. What do you think of adding the ability to post comments on events as well?

Ryan McGreal, the editor of Raise the Hammer, lives in Hamilton with his family and works as a programmer, writer and consultant. Ryan volunteers with Hamilton Light Rail, a citizen group dedicated to bringing light rail transit to Hamilton. Ryan wrote a city affairs column in Hamilton Magazine, and several of his articles have been published in the Hamilton Spectator. His articles have also been published in The Walrus, HuffPost and Behind the Numbers. He maintains a personal website, has been known to share passing thoughts on Twitter and Facebook, and posts the occasional cat photo on Instagram.

Looks great RTH! Probably should have done this years ago.

The "post event on this day" link is a little wonky on IE6.

What do you think of adding the ability to post comments on events as well?

Sounds like a good idea to me, event posters would be able to respond to questions about the event, get a rough idea of how many people plan to attend and be able to get feedback on the event after.
