They Just Couldn't Do It

They just couldn't do it. Couldn't bring themselves to proclaim proudly that despite our warts, Hamilton is a darn great place to live.

They, of course, are the Hamilton Spectator editors. In a recent article highlighting the fact that Hamilton was ranked the 7th best place to live in Canada out of 108 cities, the headline read: "We're lucky to be living in the Golden Horseshoe".

Okay, I guess. The golden horseshoe goes from Niagara Falls to Toronto. That's a big place and last time I checked I don't "live" in all of it. The Money Sense Magazine rankings list "Hamilton" as number seven on the list, not some nebulas place called "the horseshoe".

Let's all practice together now. This will be therapeutic for many in our city. Repeat after me:

We're lucky to be living in H-A-M-I-L-T-O-N. Hamilton. That's right. The Hammer. Steeltown. Hamilton. I don't live in Oakville and I don't live in St. Kitts. I live in Hamilton.

Money Sense is right – we are lucky.
