The Modern Suffragette

I met Eileen after another play and was curious to see what her play was all about, so I wandered into b contemporary gallery to take a trip into the past when women were still fighting for the vote.

Eileen plays an English suffragette who has been jailed for disturbing the peace in her efforts to raise awareness and lobby for the vote. Then, out of nowhere, the story goes from a historical recounting of this significant episode in human history to a time-travel adventure led by the new female Dr. Who!

I know. "What? I did not see that coming."

Soon we are whisked off into the future and a different country: Pickering, Ontario. This is almost Dickensian, with Dr. Who as the Ghost of Christmas Future. All the hopes and dreams of how women were going to take significant roles in society are dashed completely.

Women are very under-represented in politics, especially in Pickering, our suffragette learns. She finds this very depressing and considers giving up the cause, but luckily Dr. Who saves the day.

To find out how, check out The Modern Suffragette at b contemporary.
