Agreed this is standard... But this is not the only standard.

This is traffic-separate light rail, not mixed traffic light rail. So it will probably be flush to one side, partially due to the 2-lane and 3-lane sections, especially International Village. There's some gotchas with King that makes a median install less practical in Hamilton on King.

Calgary C-Train does this; some parts of its route is flush to one side of the street. This provides easier and safer boarding, without needing to cross traffic, and more forgiving of road-width changes (2-lane, 3-lane, 4-lane) like King.
