Busted. I knew someone would pick-up on the subtle reference. Here's hoping that he and others on council will be more urgent on the affordable housing file.

btw. MLK was speaking about the need for peace and justice in a speech called "Beyond Vietnam". To put the turn of phrase in better context:

We are now faced with the fact, my friends, that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time. Life often leaves us standing bare, naked, and dejected with a lost opportunity.

The issue of how we might house Syrian refugees was raised at Housing for All ... one of the panelists noted that the Ken Soble apartments are half empty. A Spectator article by Matt van Dongen reported that in August. The panelists suggested that fixing the units and using them might be an option. The Robert Village, the Jamesville townhouse complex, and the apartments in Riverdale are also home to refugee and new immigrant families. Access to adequate and affordable housing is an important part of the settlement and integration process.

The issue is also about access to housing for other marginalized and vulnerable groups ... and really anyone in precarious employment or making less than a living wage. The problem of affordable housing brings together a bunch of interconnected social/political issues. Too much for one article really.
