great points. A few responses:

  • the Jolley Cut width was measured just west of where this cycle track would end. I suspect we would have closer to 15 feet of extra space to work with during the portion where the cycle track can be located.
  • 12-15 feet of space means we could have 7-10 feet for the down bound bike lane and 5 feet upbound.
  • separating pedestrians from cyclists would be easy by leaving pedestrians on the sidewalk and cyclists at road level with a jersey barrier protecting them from traffic
  • 10 foot traffic lanes are very much standard around North America. You can see an even wider roadway locally with 10 foot travel lanes in Burlington: Brant St south of the QEW. It's 6 lanes across and very high speed.

Urban travel lanes wider than 10 feet encourage speeding.
