Well said ForensicRealist - to your comments I would only add:

The author claims "It is now wonderfully common in many places that homosexuals are entitled to the same respect as everyone else." - Seriously?!

He then proceeds to suggest that in order to uphold human rights we need to turn our attention to female genital mutilation in the Middle East. While I agree that having your genitals intact is a basic human right worth fighting for, what he fails to mention - or perhaps chooses to ignore - is that in those same countries in the Middle East homosexuals continue to be stoned to death, or thrown to their death from the top of ten story buildings. While homosexuals have fought tooth and nail to try and get the respect they deserve there are miles to go before they can sleep easy in their beds. To ignore this is nothing short of hypocrisy.
