Very comprehensive look at this important issue. I've been wondering similar questions myself: How is it possibly economical for the City to sell off very valuable land to private developers while preserving any amount of affordability in the area?
Sell-offs like the one proposed aren't the behaviour of a strong fiscal manager with a solid plan: it's an act of desperation to secure funds badly needed to replace even a portion of the empty units. It's adding insult to injury to hear that it's incredibly unlikely that the new private developments will be able to include units even remotely viewed as "affordable" to the average Hamiltonian.
