The big advantage possessed by Vito or any other Opposition politician is that they can make grandiose promises to everyone, unconstrained by reality.
A politician standing for re-election has to defend his record. And actually getting things done is quite a great deal harder than making grandiose promises to everyone.
Many of the best politicians are justly famous for what they didn't do and the bad ideas they killed. For example, Bill Davis killing the proposed Toronto expressway system, symbolized by the Spadina Expressway. Mr. Davis was famously accused of running a bland, boring government. His reply was, "Bland works".
I'm with Mr. Davis. Give me bland government that works!
