it goes to show a couple of things:
That when you live life with your eyes open, it's easy to see crap like this coming. We wrote about this back in 2005 when the developer and councillor were talking about grandiose things such as 'pedestrian friendliness' and 'streetwall' and the local media was all in a tizzy about how wonderful it would be.
How little thought goes into stuff like this at the planning department. I mean how hard would it have been for the city to ask that the Barton facing buildings be flipped around to face the street. Even with the rest of it - the big boxes, the mega parking lot, the suburban feel etc.... it still would have been a massive improvement simply by flipping around those few buildings along Barton. Unfortunately the ambitious city is no more and now we're all supposed to sit back, shut up and accept mediocrity as "better than nothing". Great options. The future looks bright for Hamilton with those prospects.
