The author expressed a belief that the Harper Government has shown contempt for parliament and the Canadian people

Now we're getting all meta, but I think that we're dancing around something significant.

Do you really believe that the members of the current cabinet are actually contemptuous of the population of Canada, Ryan? Contemptuous of the Canadian population as a whole? People who have entered public service? Who've kissed god-knows how many babies and pressed untold flesh to get elected?

I'll believe an awful lot of awful things about an awful lot of politicians in this country. But I don't suspect many of them of regarding the mass of the electorate with contempt and all that that implies (which is a wholly different matter from being guilty of "contempt of parliament").

To say that they hold the members of the electorate in contempt - contempt - is a very strong statement. I'd have no trouble saying that it sounds like something one would say if one were drumming up support for the Liberal Party.

And drumming up support for the Liberal Party and Liberal candidates is all well and good, but not in the guise of an article entitled "Help Get Out The Vote" which "invite[s] people of all political stripes to participate in order to help increase political awareness."
