The problem with a "temporary trial" is that it will limit the investment that any businesses will be willing to make in taking advantage of the pedestrian plaza - so it is likely we'll see no increase in businesses taking advantage of it, and then it will be easy to say "we tried and it doesn't work". If you don't make it permanent then people will stay wary forever...
I'm still glad to see it happen though - at the minimum we'll see that the removal of those parking spaces will not cause mayhem for anyone except the employees who park there all day.
I vote down for offensiveness and up for humour. I cast no votes based on my level of agreement.
