The 401 does not really apply in geographic comparison to the QEW. I found these numbers - not 3-4 times but still a significant number of non vehicular commuters.

The key is, we need to build more options in order to create a region where it's NOT NECESSARY to drive on highways every time you need to go to work (or elsewhere).

Why are you against providing options? No one is making you stop driving - in fact with more options out there, there will be fewer other drivers in your way. And the roads will be cheaper to maintain, and they will be in better condition for you!
