Let's put scientific studies aside and look at the MATH. The casino opponents say that 36% of the revenue comes from 1% of the gambling population. So if Flamboro Downs revenue is $120 Million then that means $43 million is coming from this 1% of addicted gamblers. If 1,250,000 visits are made in Flamboro then this 1% represents 12,500 patron visits from addicted personalities. Dividing the $43 million into the 12,500 problem gambling visits means that the average spend per visit among this group is $3,480. It doesn't take a math wizard to realize that individuals who spend $3500 in a single gambling visit are not from code red neighbourhoods nor are they marginalized. These are people with money, with wealth, with savings, with disposable income. This is a voluntary tax on the people that CAN afford it. The argument has to stop being made that the casinos are picking on the poor. The math just doesn't support it.
