According to Stats Canada, the City of Hamilton has the highest urban poverty rate in the province and the riding of Hamilton Centre has one of the lowest per capita median incomes in Ontario.

Howard Elliott, Executive Editor of the Hamilton Spectator, will moderate the debate. All four major party candidates have agreed to participate: Andrea Horwath (NDP), Peter Ormand (Green Party of Ontario), Chris Robertson (Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario) and Steve Ruddick (Liberal Party of Ontario).

We are also pleased that Jeff Witt, a volunteer member of the Citizens Assembly on Electoral Reform has agreed to attend and present a brief overview on the work of the Citizen's Assembly and why they are recommending a Mixed Member Proportional system in the upcoming referendum on electoral reform that takes place in conjunction with the October 10 election.
