Losing a lane on the bridge functionally means losing a lane through the intersection.

Longwood is already effectively only one driving lane in each direction north of Main with a left turn lane. There is only one northbound lane, and as you say, the centre southbound lane is effectively a left-turn lane already.

The only potential issue is the two (!) left turn lanes from Longwood northbound onto Main westbound, and that generates as much awkwardness as it prevents when drivers in the middle lane suddenly realize they can't go straight through the intersection.

Bottom line: we can keep doing study after study until Judgment Day, but at some point we need to accept the well-established fact that the traffic patterns we currently observe result from how the street is designed. We need to start designing for what we want if we are going to make it happen.
