An Evening with Nicholas Wallace (Practitioner of the Art of Astonishment)

By Lisa Marie DiLiberto
Published July 19, 2009

It's an evening of astonishment and Nick draws us right into this skillfully timed out magic show, which offers a few pieces of history while staying in the moment.

This play uses goofy chairs and other clever set pieces, combined with audience interaction to explain the trickery of the past and play a few tricks on us as well.

Nick has an intriguing personality and a fine poise and a nice connection to the audience. I liked his one character but it would have been a pleasant surprise to see Nick play another character or two, change his voice and his physicality, making the evening more into a play and less like a seminar.
