Many observers said much the same thing in the 1970s when Toronto went off the deep end and rezoned its downtown core for mixed residential/commercial use. Who on earth would want to live downtown? The answer turned out to be: millions of people.

But by all means, keep tossing out post-facto excuses why urban revitalization couldn't possibly work. Along the way, be sure to question how other people choose to spend their free time.
