The Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG) McMaster is seeking a part-time Coordinator of Information and Administration. OPIRG McMaster is a student-funded, student-directed, non-profit organization dedicated to research and action in the areas of social justice and the environment. Working with partners in the McMaster and Hamilton communities, OPIRG McMaster aims to encourage the development of students' research and advocacy skills and to make diverse viewpoints available.
This is a permanent part-time position commencing Tuesday, August 4, 2009 for 22 hours per week at a rate of $19.44 per hour, with extended health care benefits and four weeks paid vacation per year. OPIRG McMaster employees are unionized with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1281.
Coordinator of Information and Administration
Working as part of a team, OPIRG McMaster's Coordinator of Information and Administration will primarily perform office administrative duties and act as OPIRG McMaster's bookkeeper and Corporate Secretary.
Financial Administration: Banking, payroll, annual budget setting, audit preparation, grant administration, and Working Group funds administration.
Office Administration: Participate with other staff in the maintenance of regular office hours and the cleaning, upkeep, and improvements to the space; establish and maintain systems that support organizational learning and memory (e.g. overall filing systems, archives, operating manuals, computer systems); sell and maintain stock of Fair Trade items.
Programming: Plan and implement events generated through the office.
Board of Directors: Attend Board meetings and assist the volunteer Board of Directors in fulfilling their corporate responsibilities (i.e. board meeting minutes, compliance with constitution and policies, Annual General Meeting, training Board members in consensus, anti-oppression, financial responsibilities) and maintain organization record keeping.
Provincial OPIRG Network: Attend Provincial staff meetings; assist in the planning and implementation of provincial functions, and participate in the provincial network activities (policy development, joint projects, etc.).
Grant Writing and Administration: Apply for and supervise student grant staff.
Research for Credit: Assist students in the identification of research projects relevant to the goals of the organization; provide direction and assistance for students in the completion of such research projects, and promote research projects with students and faculty.
Communications: Participate in general communications (mail, phone, fax, email); greet visitors, and respond to media or other queries.
Committees: Represent OPIRG McMaster on campus or community committees as required or appropriate.
Networking: Maintain and nurture the numerous relationships OPIRG McMaster has developed with campus and community organizations.
Resource Centre: Assist library users and offer suggestions for the maintenance and improvement of the Resource Centre.
