BE, the Guardian (one of those "left wing nuts" who care about climate change) has a great article on Sweden and the carbon tax:

Between 1990 and 2006 Sweden cut its carbon emissions by 9%, largely exceeding the target set by the Kyoto Protocol, while enjoying economic growth of 44% in fixed prices.

The entire article is definitely worth reading for the explanation of how the carbon tax has worked.
