You Had Us at Blood and Semen

Nicole MacIntyre is on a roll this week. Her latest Hall Marks blog offers a glimpse into the bizarre, frightening world from which Councillor Dave Mitchell defends cosmetic pesticide use (is anyone surprised?) by, er, putting everything on the table.

Actually, his years of exposure to pesticides might explain some of Mitchell's more interesting positions on civic affairs...

Ryan McGreal, the editor of Raise the Hammer, lives in Hamilton with his family and works as a programmer, writer and consultant. Ryan volunteers with Hamilton Light Rail, a citizen group dedicated to bringing light rail transit to Hamilton. Ryan wrote a city affairs column in Hamilton Magazine, and several of his articles have been published in the Hamilton Spectator. His articles have also been published in The Walrus, HuffPost and Behind the Numbers. He maintains a personal website, has been known to share passing thoughts on Twitter and Facebook, and posts the occasional cat photo on Instagram.

I witnessed the whole putrid display on Cable 14. You forgot to mention Robert Pasuta pounding his chest: "Ooh ooh. I got my wife pregnant seven times! I'm the MAN!" What's next? Swaggering around in flight suits deciding policy based on who has the biggest package? Far be it from me to suggest that having more female politicians is some kind of panacea (cough Maria Pearson cough cough) but it could scarcely be worse.

I left this on Nicole's blog:

Mitchell's comments reveal an unsettling level of ignorance. His logic is that of the smoker that says, "My grandma smoked all her life and she lived until she was 80," or that of the person who survives a car crash without wearing a seatbelt and then advocates that no one wear one.

Good for you, Mr. Mitchell. Your semen got a clean bill of health. But what about all the people with cancers that are linked to pesticide use? Have you ever considered that your actions in spraying pesticide may have harmed people other than yourself?

Or is it just yourself that you care about?

Mitchell is an idiot! Pesticides kill and kill and kill and for this clown to hold a chair on council is frightening.
