Spec to Focus on Local Content

David Estok, the Hamilton Spectator's editor in chief, had an interesting column in Saturday's paper.

I'm pleased to hear them finally admit (in a roundabout way) that their local coverage hasn't been so great. Perhaps the soon-to-arrive CBC radio station is already having an impact on our current media outlets. More local content is a good thing.

More Paul Wilson is a great thing. He's a wonderful writer who does a fabulous job at capturing the heart and spirit of our city.

Let's hope the Spec takes a great stride forward next week. As the city's only daily paper, they have a huge role to fill. Time will tell if they're finally willing to embrace that role and become a positive force in the regeneration of Hamilton.

They've promised this many times in the past. Can we get an publisher and editor that lives in hamilton? Enough with these Oakville people doing the drive to Hamilton to earn enough credit for a promotion at Torstar in Toronto. They're like our councilors who use the post for a greater personal agenda. The paper hasn't been much since Pat Collins/Kirk LaPointe. Metroland running the Spec is a joke.

I was about to cancel my subscription until I read his little bit last week...I'll give them one more chance, then I'm gone. I'll glady spend that same money on the Star and actually have something worth reading.

I just signed up to be a 'Spec advisor'. It's easy and fun and you can do it too! I belong to the soccer mom demo that advertisers just love. Hope I don't confuse the little darlings too much when I tell them that recipes and parenting tips make me catatonic with boredom, and I go to the mall once a year wearing a hazmat suit.
