Fake Street Wall Puts Real Street to Shame

I just returned from a walk around the charming movie set at Main and John. I've been meaning to take a look for a while, but my travels haven't taken me along that stretch of Main recently.

It's a traditional street wall: continuous, porous, with no setback from the sidewalk. In other words, it's precisely the kind of facade that should already be on Main Street.

I don't know which is the more damning indictment of Hamilton's economic development, transportation and land use policies of the past few decades: that the film production company had to build a fake street wall or they they had so much empty land adjacent to a major downtown street on which to do it.

If only we put as much attention and care into our real built environment as the film crew is putting into a fake built environment they plan to blow up in a few weeks.

sadly, that streetwall did exist for many decades along Main. The film crew is simply re-enacting what we've already done in real life: blow up the streetwall along Main.

Does anyone have a photo of this street wall, and of the scene, pre-blown up? Or even of the original street wall which existed?
