Time for a Change of Consciousness

If you couldn't be bothered to read my bloated, 1,900 word Earth Hour rant from the weekend (and who can blame you?), the Spectator has just published a boiled down version, weighing in at a mere 977 words.

Titled Time for a change of consciousness, it tries to make a case that we need to abandon our obsession with airports and highways if we are to live up to the promise of Earth Hour.

Ryan McGreal, the editor of Raise the Hammer, lives in Hamilton with his family and works as a process and service analyst, web application developer, writer, and journal editor. Ryan volunteers with Hamilton Light Rail, a citizens group dedicated to bringing light rail transt to Hamilton. He is also is the city editor for H Magazine. Several of his essays have been published in the Hamilton Spectator.

Awesome that folks like you get to write for the Spec once in a while. It's nice to have this website, but even more important is getting the information out to the general public.

Nice job Ryan. A great, comprehensive analysis. Call me lazy but I prefer to shorter version ;)

It's great that they printed this, but I'm dreading the 'balance' to come.

Great commentary on where we are !But how do you convince the Nimbys... they are still out there faking green morals and refusing to recognize the future. This isn't about the Gore theory ( right or wrong ) .. it is about survival for my kids who at this point still enjoy a 47 ft lot and inefficent use of autos to drive all three boys all over the golden H/shoe to play hockey. It is about my neighbours who are going to line up against a new small townhouse complex down the street. I can live with that.Something I read about the Provincial directions for intensifyig established neighbourhoods. Why not ?Finally , I went from a great honking 4Wheel suv to a smaller AWD , wow 35% bettergas mileage
