Hamilton's jobless rate has fallen quite a bit, to 5.3 percent right now.

One problem is different career choices means some people (e.g. very old steel workers who haven't yet retired) may not fit well into the new job availability (e.g. high tech companies). Older people have a hard time finding new jobs, as it is hard to switch career types. That said, I hear with U.S. Steel potentially being taken over by a historically more friendly company, that may help, too. The art of jobhunting has changed a lot, so attending free seminars (sometimes provided by the city) on modern jobhunting techniques helps a lot too -- some high tech companies don't accept paper resumes anymore -- so it's a shock after a 20 year career at a company...
