The February 29 presentation to PWC was a high-level overview. Examples from previous years can be seen here. Unfortunately, the February 29 report is not up on this page yet and I do not know how to go into the dysfunctional City web system to retrieve it.
It would have been highly inappropriate to have included a purely speculative application for a sum of money that is not a material amount of the City’s budget. Now that the grant has been approved, now is the correct time to include that in our reports and description of future plans.
Bay Street (and many other Hamilton streets!) has been a frequent Agenda item for HCyC. If Mr. Whitehead wishes to be informed about the nitty-gritty detail of the discussion of all possible outcomes and speculative future events, the appropriate course of action would be for him to show up at the meetings. They are at 5:45 PM at City Hall on the first Wednesday of each month, and open to the public.
If Mr. Whitehead believes that the presentations to PWC should include a level of detail that includes all possible speculative future outcomes for all of Hamilton’s streets, then I suggest that he make a motion to that effect at PWC. In the highly unlikely event that such a motion passes, much, much more time would need to be allocated to this presentation. I would also suggest that it would then be appropriate to provide suitable compensation to the currently unpaid volunteers who are making this presentation.
The reality of the situation is that Mr. Whitehead is bullying City staff to make his political points. City staff are an easy target because they cannot defend themselves. City staff and HCyC are reporting to PWC at the level of detail that they always have and that PWC has asked them to report. If Mr. Whitehead wants to be kept abreast of speculation as to all possible future outcomes on all of Hamilton’s streets, he can show up at the Committee meeting and receive that level of nitty-gritty detail.
