Thanks Ryan - My concerns are primarily on our lack of focus on -what is happening- in that cross over space between ideologies and scientific facts.

This is my concern regarding urban design ideologies from the 20th century - as well as issues such as depleting world resources that get attached to discussions on Cities in the 21st century.

Hubbert was more than an "adherent" of - "the clumsy mid-century technocratic advocacy movement" - he was its co-founder. This to me is that 'cross over space' between ideologies and scientific facts that causes serious concern.

It was the same space in which WMD's were first claimed to be found not so long ago.

Was there any overlap between scientific facts and drum beating of an organization that Hubbert co-founded? That is for scholars to find out.

"but all ideology aside" - is a state we can rarely achieve in a pure form - hence evidence based conclusions suffer greatly in our times. We manufacture evidence to support our ideologies. And hence I believe it is better to err on the side of doubt than to take on hard positions on issues.

Hence my fascination with Rhizomatic form; Deleuze & Guattari - and the need to give 'Grand Narratives' a rest in our times - For it takes away energies from discovering meaningful solutions in time-frames that matter - before a real tipping-point is reached.
