How much is this so-called diversion costing us?

How much does it cost to have trucks and hire people to pick this stuff up on city streets?

How much does it cost to sort this stuff at a facility? How much does the facility cost?

How much does it cost to "recycle" these products into something that people are will to buy (at a profit to the taxpayer)? I hear that alot of "recycled" goods end up in landfill anyway, probably because they have been damaged or because there is just isn't a market for them at the time.

Perhaps it would just be cheaper for us to incinerate our garbage?

And by "cost" I am referring to actual dollar outlay, amount of time spent, and environmental cost for you tree huggers out there (yes, those recycling trucks run on gasoline and the recycling process probably also uses a great deal of energy.)
