You're turning this into a discussion about the merits of the Pan Am Games, rather than a discussion of the merits of Jason's ideas to use this opportunity to make Hamilton a more livable city. We're getting the opportunity. What are we going to do with it?

There are ten ideas here. Some of them may not directly affect "those who struggle," but many others, like complete streets, cycling infrastructure, tree planting, and access to the escarpment and waterfront, and more (and more intelligently conceived) public spaces obviously do. They make the city a healthier, more livable, and more pleasant environment for everyone--which is especially nice for those whose recreational options are limited to the free amenities of the city.

Do you have some better ideas for making Hamilton a healthier, more livable, and more pleasant environment for the people who live and work here? I like these, but I haven't been here very long and I'm sure there's a lot I could learn about what the city needs most.

And while I'm at it, one of the things I'd like to see is more points of access to the rail trail along the base of the escarpment. Residents of the neighborhoods from St Clair to Gage Park are a stone's throw from the trails but, amazingly, there doesn't seem to be a pedestrian right of way any closer than Wentworth. You shouldn't have to drive to go for a walk in the woods behind your house.
