Public Meeting to discuss a union of Hamilton transit users and supporters

  • Date: Saturday, January 17, 2015
  • Time: 4pm
  • Location: MacNab Terminal

I am calling a public meeting to discuss a union of Hamilton transit users & supporters. The idea has been floated publicly this week in response to events, and I am calling for all interested parties to meet and explore uniting for collective action.

We shall meet 4pm Saturday at the MacNab Transit Terminal, downtown. We will meet there, at the terminal building, and move elsewhere depending on the size of the crowd.

A cafe sounds nice. We will leave a note about where we've gone, in case anyone is late.

Absolutely everyone is welcome. Especially if you are a young person, please do come and get involved.

The business part of the meeting, is to be very short.

That feel when you read the "young person" sentence and get excited and then remember that you aren't young anymore.

A Facebook page, where you can RSVP to the meeting if you wish (it isn't necessary) is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/60211850...

The "young person" part could be phrased better.

Never the less, it's a good cause.

I appreciate that, I am an aging person myself, but I want young people--students in our schools most of all--to feel they can come forward and lead. As I said, absolutely everyone is welcome.

Is this what you may be aiming for (in the long-run)?

I see by Googling a bit that there's http://www.hamiltontransit.ca/about-us/ And is TUG still in operation? Their site isn't. Any insight, Ryan? https://www.raisethehammer.org/blog/1490...

TUG is defunct, according to those who once ran it.

To clarify, I myself don't have anything in mind, except the popular call in recent days for a union or group representing transit riders. The group will need to be directed and led from among its members, so initially from those who come along and wish to be involved. I plan to take a signup sheet and start a mailing list, and am getting a website off the ground to hand over to whomever wishes to run it.

would be dynamite if a large portion of this group was able to attend the council meeting next week peacefully with large signs or something stating their importance as citizens while being transit users..... Thx for organizing.
