City Seeks Rapid Transit Advisory Committee Volunteers

By RTH Staff
Published July 08, 2010

The City's Rapid Transit office has issued a call for volunteers to participate in a Rapid Transit Citizens Advisory Committee (RTCAC) to "provide advice and feedback to the Rapid Transit team regarding ongoing rapid transit plans for Hamilton."

The committee will have up to 25 members, among whom staff are looking for broad representation from across the city and from different stakeholder groups, including residents, property owners and business owners.

The committee will meet once a month for a year, starting in September 2010.

The City is accepting applications online or via snail mail to: City of Hamilton, Public Works Department, 77 James Street North, Ste. 320, Hamilton ON L8R 2K3.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, July 30, 2010.

Their call for applications explains:

A one-year rapid transit study funded by Metrolinx is currently ongoing with a focus on the preliminary design for the B-line and the feasibility for the A-line. It will outline how the rapid transit system will look and function along the B-line, analyze traffic impacts and develop solutions to address challenges. In addition to the RTCAC, the City will continue to provide traditional community participation opportunities through public meetings, open houses and surveys.

As always, the city provides further details on the Rapid Transit website.

While I'm a big proponent (and user of) public transit, I will not be applying because I may be moving away, temporarily, sometime over the course of the next 12 months.
