Update: according to this article, the @jimbalsillie twitter account is phony, suggesting this story is just a ruse. Well played, fake Jim Balsillie. Well played.
Jim Balsillie, CEO of Research in Motion and a long-time proponent of an NHL hockey team in Hamilton, just posted a tantalizing message on his long-dormant twitter account:
Hi again, social friends! Very early morning. Nashville bound today! And not to learn how to write a country song. Stay tuned.
Back in 2007, Balsillie tried to buy the Nashville Predators and move them to Hamilton to play in Copps Coliseum, but the deal fell apart between local resistance in Nashville to the team's move and opposition from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
More recently, Balsillie tried in 2009 to buy the Phoenix Coyotes out of bankruptcy and move them to Hamilton, but again the deal fell apart after the bankruptcy judge rejected his purchase condition that the team move to Southern Ontario.
More to come as this story develops.
