A recent CATCH article captures precisely what's wrong with our city:
A new standard subdivision agreement form was approved without debate by council but Stoney Creek councillor Maria Pearson took the opportunity to praise "the Hamilton Halton Home Builders Association who worked together with staff on this." Pearson noted the new form "has been a long time coming" and results in "simplifying processes for builders and residents who want to come forward and build homes in our community."
As long as the construction industry - builders, suppliers, contractors, property speculators, real estate agents - maintains its pervasive influence over city business, we will never be able to get our priorities straight and focus on healthy, sustainable development.
