lighting seems to be a huge issue as to where break-ins occur. Folks at either end of the alley rarely report a problem with various street lights in place. We are in mid-block and it's pitch black at night. The last year has been constant nonsense. Fires, break-ins, theft etc....

As for the 'broken window' link below, if I set up a bistro set in my alley, people would want to have tea and strumpets there. I've seen fewer alleys nicer than ours in the city. The neighbours all keep it mowed, we have some herbs growing, it's sunny and has great daytime views of a gorgeous church on one side and the park on the other. Neighbours use it constantly as a walking route. The problem is it's one block long. No good for a trail or anything of substance. Not sure how it ever came into existence actually. There's no alley on the opposite side of the park and no alley continuing across the street. Also no alleys to our north or south. It's random. Maybe that's why we get all the action. No other alleys offering competition. Lol

I would kill for some good lighting. My neighbour and I have loaded up on motion lights, but a constant dusk to dawn lighting program through all alleys would be great.
