there was a great report that council received years ago with a title something like "The Electric City: Bayfront Strategy". Dr Richard Gilbert produced the report. It was the most optimistic look into the future steel lands that I've ever read. His vision was tied into the huge demand in the future for renewable energies and more sustainable forms of transportation.
He envisioned solar plants (two companies just tried to set up in Hamilton and we said no...so much for ambition) windmill plants streetcar/LRT plants new types of steel needed in future industries, electric cars etc.....
I would love to see the city make a huge push into such sectors and try to establish a renewable industry hub here like we've done with food.
