Telling lies is easier than debunking lies.

I have lived this. Please see my article on Terry Whitehead's numerous lies that he uttered on the Bill Kelly show. Putting that article together took quite some time.

If I had not been personally involved by way of my membership in one of Hamilton's Citizens' Advisory Committees, the Hamilton Cycling Committee, I would not have been able to bear true witness to what actually happened. Again, that involvement was and is a lot of (unpaid) work.

It is easy for a member of Hamilton City Council to smear City staff by telling bare-faced lies about their professional competence and accusing staff of not doing their jobs properly. Staff members cannot fight back by calling out the councillor on his lies. That is what bullies do: They pick on people who cannot fight back.

That is one reason why Citizens' Advisory Committees are so important: By making ordinary citizens part of the process, we can bear true witness to what actually happened because we were there.
