While you see the board's reluctance to stay downtown as an expression of the trustees' will, I wonder if it might be others who are driving the agenda. First, Chris Spence, who you misidentify as the Chair of the Board (he is, in fact, the Director of Education, not an elected position) expresses no loyalty to remaining downtown. He was hired by a board that has, over the last several years, surrendered any meaningful input into educational decisions, with the exceptions of school closures. With the bureaucrats driving the agenda, as a retired teacher I can't help but wonder if this is not a case of empire and resume building, something I saw all too often during my career.

There are, in fact, a number of people in the employ of the board who, contrary to popular notion, don't necessarily have the best interests of either the community or local education at heart; perhaps this is the inevitable consequence of a board that has a largely hands-off approach to policy development and implementation.
