This is often one of the tenets that is forgotten when we look at economic progress. By all financial measures, today's Western society is the most wealthy society ever to have existed on the face of the earth. But what is it we have actually accomplished with that wealth? As Kunstler terms it, merely the "greatest misallocation of wealth that has ever existed". When you look at the quality of materials and craftsmanship in the built form that existed even during the depths of the Great Depression, it makes today's society look like it is suffering from terminal poverty. Why is it that we do not asipre to construct things right any more?
