Westdale was also unique in that it was a suburb that began life outside of the city limits (Pope's planning and McKittrick sales pitches date to 1910) and became part of Hamilton a few years into development (annexed January 1914), which led to the bridge later that year, which in turn precipitated infrastructure spending (water, sewer, streetcar service were rolled out in 1922).
