I'm glad I don't work security at a museum or gallery. The idea of trying to safeguard something literally irreplaceable doesn't thrill me. I remember years ago visiting Paris, and getting a full pat-down search on my way out of the Catacombs. Surprised, confused and a bit offended, I asked in broken French why we were being searched on the way out, not the way in. "Bones", the guard replied (there's a few million exposed skeletons artfully arranged down there as a memorial to plague victims). I looked at the two skulls and femurs on his table, and asked if those were ones he found. "Today", he replied. I was no longer offended.

Compared to that, baba-ghanoushing a famous painting seems almost tame.
