Hamilton can either prepare itself for a future in which city living is more highly valued relative to suburban living, or else continue to watch from the sidelines as more responsive cities pull ahead.

Can't tell you how much I hate the way this sentiment is framed. It strikes me as simplistic, not contributing at all to any meaningful discussion (honestly, it's reminiscent of the rhetoric of Tea Partiers...or Chicken Little adherents), and more than a little 'Father Knows Best' with an envisioned finger-wag to accompany it.

Tell me; what happens in this scenario with Hamilton 'on the sidelines'? What does that look like?

What's the worst-case scenario? What does all this involve? That we're eventually going to lose our 'city' status? That everyone will leave? That the entire area will disappear up its own primary orifice because 'it' (that's funny in itself; someone once said 'There's no such thing as 'The Government', just a whole lot of individuals, working') didn't have the forethought and adaptive capabilities?

These are precisely the kinds of issues that need to be discussed in the same room, rather than statically here online.
