The announced closure of the Wesley Day Centre has left many people using the vital services being offered there wondering where they are going to go after the summer. The Shelter Health Network has provided health services at 195 Ferguson Ave N since 2005. We feel that it is the responsibility of the City of Hamilton to step up and find a solution so that the Wesley Day Centre can continue providing these essential services in the same holistic way that it does today.
The current opioid crisis is affecting many of these same folks at an unprecedented rate. The City of Hamilton has recognized the gravity of the situation but has not yet found a location for a full service supervised injection site (Consumption and Treatment Services facility, or CTS, in government language). We are asking that they truly make this the priority they claim it to be and get the job done.
