It's a very naive view of the world which imagines that change and improvement are only brought about by politicians.
The government plan to run the 403 through Dundas along Governors Road was stopped by the loving advocacy of two private citizens and a journalist. The loving advocacy of Jane Jacobs stopped the Spadina Expressway from going up. Ralph Nader lovingly advocated for safer cars. Loving advocacy came first; the politicians came round as a result.
Imagine a world in which people waited to be elected before trying to influence their world for the better. Do you like what you see?
